Shimmer Series
What's wrong with my computer?

Sometimes when I turn my computer on, and the "Welcome" screen comes on, I see a lot of "snow" and I see a blurred cursor that is shimmering. After a few seconds, this problem goes away and the screen is quite clear.

It sounds like you have a crt monitor that is on its way out.

Lcd screens are very inexpensive now and are much easier on the eyes.

This has nothing to do with your windows install.

Once you get your monitor issue sorted out you should update your computer to service pack 2 and then service pack 3. They have important security updates and fixes.

If would like a recommendation on a monitor (and where to get it ) just let me know a price range. Around $100 is still at the low end.

Reinstall windows is a terrible answer. Are guys saying that just to cause problems? Or were you guys just born after crts fell out of common use. Not trying to be a jerk but dudes none of the symptoms calls for something like that

Also look at StofStuiver's answer, he is on the ball. I would still say that I do not think it is the cable because it goes back to normal after a few seconds. If it were the cable I would think the problem would be more constant.
